Genre is a type of project. There are many different ways for author to explain his ideas for his audience. It could be a film, or a book, or just speaking. Even inside those major categories there are different genres such as comedy or tragedy and many more. During this semester our focus was on the main genres which engineers use: memo, technical description, lab report and technical proposal. Different situations require different genres for the project. For example, if you want to describe how a screwdriver works and what is it, then you will use technical description. If you want to notify someone about any kind of problem or propose a solution for it, than the proper genre will be memo.
